Train to enter the emerging field of Mechatronics and Advanced Manufacturing at Shoreline Community College. Learn to integrate mechanics, electronics and control systems to problem-solve 21st century manufacturing systems.

Train to enter the field of Machinist. Machinists use their knowledge of machinery to execute the work of engineers. They determine how to create machined products that satisfy precise specifications. This requires examining and understanding technical drawings and blueprints. It also may require collaborating with engineers.

Machinists are tradespeople or trained professionals who operate machine tools to shape metal or other materials into other items. They may repair parts on existing machinery or create new parts entirely. Machinists create a variety of products, ranging from small items, such as titanium bone screws to steel bolts to larger items, such as automobile pistons or hydraulic parts. Some machinists will make the same items multiple times, but precision machinists may produce one-of-a-kind items or small batches of items.

The national average salary for a machinist is $60,453 per year.

It's important for machinists and mechatronic technicians to have computer skills. Machinists and Mechatronic Techs work with manual and CNC machinery. Working with CNC machinery may also require programming. (CNC- Computer Numerically Controlled).
