Boeing Pilot and Technician Outlook 2023-2042 Out Now

The Boeing Company has released its 20 year pilot and technician outlook, and the company sees air travel demand outpacing economic growth while the industry faces continued challenges in meeting workforce demand.

Boeing projects a worldwide need for 649,000 new pilots and 690,000 new technicians over the next 20 years, both increases from last year’s forecast. The company also projects fleet numbers and air traffic growth, annualized at 3.5% and 6.1%, respectively.

Boeing points to challenges in “insufficient training capacity to support significant personnel shortage and the lag time required to bring personnel online while continuing to prioritize safety.” The company calls for a long-term strategy that addresses labor challenges. “Investment in early career-development programs and outreach efforts that spark excitement among future aviators will be essential to a healthy aviation market for years to come.”
