ATEC Releases the 2023 Pipeline Report

The latest Pipeline Report, a collaboration between the Aviation Technical Education Council (ATEC) and Oliver Wyman, highlights the need for increased efforts to attract and certify more aviation mechanics.

The report reveals that despite steady but slow growth in the certified mechanic workforce, there is a projected shortage of 31,000 mechanics in commercial aviation alone by 2031.

Accredited aviation maintenance technician schools (AMTS) are identified as a key pathway to meet this demand, but the survey indicates a minimal increase in new AMTS entrants.

Challenges include low representation of women in the workforce, slow growth in awareness of programs, and a fear of testing hindering completion rates.

ATEC and stakeholders are focused on developing sustainable solutions to address these issues and ensure an adequate supply of skilled technicians for the aerospace industry.
