Description
The Technical Design program is designed to provide skills and knowledge in a variety of computer aided design software including CATIA version 5, Solid Works, and AutoCAD. The Advanced Manufacturing Technology Technical Design (CAD) ATA degree includes courses in: computer literacy, industrial safety, engineering graphics, technical problem analysis, precision fits, tolerances and GD&T, solid works, pneumatic, statics and strength of materials, materials & process, and operations management.
Skill Sets
Graduates of this program will be able to successfully demonstrate the following skills:
  1. Solve technical mathematical problems.
  2. Utilize basic geometry and engineering graphics with 2D AutoCAD.
  3. Create and understand multi-view drawings using 2D AutoCAD and 3D packages including Solid Works and Catia.
  4. Create 3 dimensional solid part models using Solid Works and Catia modeling software.
  5. Create assemblies and assembly drawings from 3D models using Solid Works and Catia.
  6. Create complex surfaced part models using 3D Catia software.
  7. Understand at a very introductory level, the Mastercam interface, and how models created by Mastercam or any software can be used to generate CNC toolpaths.
  8. Design for producability and manufacturing ease.
  9. Document technical activities in written and verbal reports.
  10. Be prepared for successful employment.
